“Step Brothers Failure to Launch with a Kick & Punch”

The movie begins by introducing two forty year old’s in California who still live with there parents. (Brendan Huff) played by Will Ferrell who still lives with his mom and (Dale Doback) who lives with his Dad. So why is this movie called Step Brothers and how do they meet? This happens when Brendan’s mom (Nancy) played by Mary Steenburgen meets Dale’s dad (Dr. Robert Doback) played by Richard Jenkins at a press conference and they fall in love and decide to get married. The two parents also discuss how they have two kids that are middle aged that still have not left the nest yet. Once the four move into together the brother’s must get along and learn to live with each other. This is where the movie really starts to pick up and get interesting. Ferrell and Reilly’s characters begin hating each other. This is until they both can finally agree on something they both hate more, Ferrell’s younger brother (Derek) played by Adam Scott. Reilly’s character (Dale) is also pissed off that his dad (Robert) likes (Derek) so much Ferrell’s younger brother. The two parents’ agree that if these two don’t find jobs with in the next month, they will be kicked out of the house.

So what happens during this time that makes this film so funny? Imagine yourself being a ten year old trapped in a forty year olds body. That’s what you get from Step Brother’s two little spoiled brats running around causing havoc sleep walking, getting in fights, yelling, and screaming. To me the reviewer this is blast to watch on screen. Ferrell and Reilly bring there A game. They are hilarious together one silly joke after another that had me laughing so hard I almost peed my pants. For example Reilly (Dale’s) one rule of the house is to not touch his drums. Ferrell’s character (Brendan) not only play’s the drum’s but drops one of his balls on it. Then when Reilly’s character calls him out on it he says “Why are you all sweaty? “ Ferrell says I was watching cops!” Moments like this make Step Brothers a pleasure to watch.

So in the end it’s not so much the plot that leaves you intrigued it’s the acting, the improf, and the chemistry. Step Brother’s is not going to win any Oscars but it sure is funny to watch. Ferrell needed a comeback hit after a disappointing Semi-Pro and Step Brothers was it. So if you are looking for a comedy with some kick to it Step Brothers is the answer to your prayers.
